INTERNATIONAL SUMMER SCHOOL (HISS) – 2025

We are pleased to share an incredible opportunity for students and faculty members to participate in the Hamburg International Summer School (HISS) 2025 at the University of Hamburg. Designed to foster global academic collaboration and offer unique learning experiences, HISS presents a diverse range of summer programs covering key topics in science, law, and technology.

These summer schools provide an excellent platform to engage with international experts, develop interdisciplinary skills, and connect with peers from around the world. 

Available Summer Schools in 2025:
1. Particles, Strings, and Cosmology

This program explores modern challenges in particle physics, string theory, and cosmology while connecting them to the cutting-edge research conducted at the University of Hamburg and DESY. Additionally, students will gain insights into the role of AI and machine learning in data analysis for particle physics. 

2. Institutions, Behavior, and the Law

The program examines the interactions between institutional change and socio-economic norms of behavior in a society and their impact on legal issues, while the aim is to examine the dynamic interactions between these areas.

3. Global South Perspectives on AI: Power, Social Justice, and Opportunities for an Equitable Future

This summer school invites law students to critically examine the implications of AI technologies on power dynamics, social justice, and equity, particularly in Global South contexts, while fostering discussions to promote inclusive and equitable frameworks in legal practices.

4. Challenges of Synthetic Biology: From Theory to Praxis

The aim for the summer school is to provide students with a comprehensive and in-depth insight, both in theory and practice, into a current research topic in the vibrant field of Synthetic Biology.

Overview
  • Target group: Students of all student groups (Bachelor/ Master/ State Examination/ Doctorate) at University of Hamburg and universities worldwide; open to all subjects
  • Eligible to apply: Teaching staff at the University of Hamburg
  • Program goals: intercultural exchange on the current research situation, expansion of new research collaborations, recruitment of qualified foreign students and doctoral candidates
  • Eligible activities: Implementation of a summer school within the framework of the HISS guidelines
  • Funding: up to EUR 8,000
  • Application deadline: 30 November 2024
